I dream of... Comparing Style Muses Vol. I

Rachel Bilson and Ali MacGraw

This image of Rachel as Ali is from the Fall 2011 issue of In Style Makeover. Although Bilson does credit Ali MacGraw as one of her glamour icons, it's not until I'm searching for photos of both women that I realize how much they remind me of each other. Ms. Bilson has such an effortlessly chic bohemian glam style that I can't help wanting to emulate it myself. The photos of Ali may be in the 70's but I'd wear any of these outfits today.

Awww I love them both!

I dream of... Pretty pillows

Not just for your head...

While shopping for a photo shoot a couple weeks ago, I wandered into Kitson on Robertson (which tends to be a fatal mistake to my wallet, I want everything in there!) and I fell in love with this throw pillow by Jonathan Adler. I adore the whimsical astrological sign and the "grandma-chicness" in the needlepoint work. Plus the lively colors match the bright green wall in my room so I snatched it up for my bed. (I happen to be a proud Sagittarian, but there is a pillow for every sign if you don't happen to be born Nov. 22- Dec. 21 ha)

This inspired my search for more pillows so here are some more that I like:

Finger Mustache pillow from Kaboodle.com

Missoni Home

Live Love from Anthropologie

Elephant pillow from Urban Outfitters
Ombre pillow from Anthropologie

Owl pillow from Urban Outfitters

I dream of... Pizza Pie

Thin Crust or Thick?

Who doesn't love a good pizza pie? My mouth waters just thinking about biting into a hot slice of custom goodness no matter what time of the day. Yahoo! Travel recently posted an article on the cities that boast the world's best pizza. According to them they are:

6. Rome, Italy
5. Chicago
4. Osaka and Hiroshima, Japan (this one surprised me, too)
3. São Paulo, Brazil
2. New York
1. Naples, Italy

This got me wondering about where to find a good pizza here in Los Angeles. I hate to admit, my girls and I usually stick to the plain old chains like Dominos or Papa Johns when we order in (I know, shameful). So I did a little research and discovered gayot.com's top ten list in LA:

10. Zelo in Arcadia
9. Vito's in West Hollywood
8. Tomato Pie Pizza Joint in Silverlake
7. Terroni near the Grove
6. Pit Fire Pizza Co. in NoHo
5. Paoli's Pizzeria in Woodland Hills
4. Mulberry St. Pizzeria in Beverly Hills
3. Casa Bianca Pizza Pie in Eagle Rock
2. Caioti Pizza Cafe in Studio City
1. Abbot's Pizza Company in Venice

Has anyone been to any of these places or have any other fabulous pizza joints to suggest? Mmm now, time for the "real" research to begin...

Try not to drool too much while reading :)

I dream of... H2O that's good for you & the planet

Did you know that Americans alone spend $17 billion annually on portable water? The costs are not limited to our wallets, either: each year 1.5 million barrels of oil are used to make plastic water bottles. Most of those bottles are casually discarded and end up in our landfills, oceans, and littering our sidewalks.

Luckily, the company Bobble Water decided to do something about it! They invented a recyclable yet resilient filtered water bottle that can be reused for months. Just fill it with water and bobble will do the rest: hydrate, be beautiful, and reduce waste, one sip at a time!

I bought a sky blue one at American Apparel for only $10, but here is also a link to their website: http://www.waterbobble.com/

Conserving water is a major passion of mine (just ask my loved ones, I'm constantly reminding them to turn the water off when brushing teeth and to try to take shorter showers) so this was a fabulous discovery.

Love our planet and it will love you back!

Idream of... That 70's Look

Inspiration from a shirt

While shopping in Maui last August I stumbled upon this fabulous lavender shirt. On the front it has a peacock feather and reads "Love this Life" but the back is the reason I laid down 60 big ones without flinching. These are the words to live by:

LovethisLife...
is about celebrating the moment
and that we're not guaranteed or owed another day
and how cool it is that what we hide
can actually be the fuel towards our glory
and that it's not so bad being proven wrong

LovethisLife...
is about welcoming the blind turn
and the possibility
that there's no such thing as coincidence
and that empathy is incredibly sexy
and that it's never too late
to pick up a guitar or a paintbrush
or to make an amend or to make a new friend

LovethisLife...
could be about rekindling a past flame
or igniting a new one
or shapeshifting from a dreamer into a doer
or savouring the caress of a love long gone

LovethisLife...
means whatever it is you want it to mean
because

LovethisLife...
is a celebration of you and your path

LovethisLife...
'cuz it could go at any second

you rock.

My blog is about loving this crazy, curvy, fashionable, nerdy, music-filled, eco-friendly life that I chose for myself and the projects I'll share with y'all along the way.

Next up, getting it tattooed somewhere. Any ideas? :)
